From its inception, Orthodontic Update has always had a clear and focused remit - to fill the yawning gap that previously existed for a clinically orientated, practical and readable Orthodontic Journal for the entire orthodontic team, hence recognizing and addressing the considerable changes that have taken place in the delivery of Orthodontic care. The fact that it has succeeded is reflected, not just in the very healthy subscription figures, but in the many and varied submissions seeking publication, and the overwhelmingly positive comments received by the editorial team. Of these, perhaps some of the most gratifying relate to the fact that Orthodontic Update forms one of the most popular basis for round table and tutorial discussion groups up and down the country. A number of exciting initiatives are in the pipeline - not least the bringing together for publication of the series of excellent multidiscipinary articles on the treatment of cleft lip and palate patients, soon to be available as a book, and which we hope will become recommended reading for all those involved in such care.
I have been Editorial Director for over six years now, and it is time to move on - I will miss everything about OU - even the deadlines! - and would like to take the opportunity to express my grateful thanks to all involved, especially the tireless Angela Stroud, whose expertise and guidance will continue to benefit my successor. This will be Jonathan Sandler, fresh from his spectacular success in organizing and chairing the London Conference - an event which showcased the UK in the best possible light. I wish him well!
In this current edition, we have our usual offering of articles across the wide spectrum of Orthodontic care, from the fascinating and informative exposition relating the high points and pitfalls of the first year of a fledgling Hospital Consultant, to the extremely important topic of space analysis, plus a comprehensive and well illustrated review of the literature relating to the all too common problem of root resorption. I do hope you enjoy it. Thank you for all your support.
