This is a largely clinical book based on 36 years of the author's clinical experience. It is divided into 10 chapters, with subdivisions covering such topics as non-extraction treatment, congenitally missing teeth and impacted canines; in total 414 pages. Dr Counihan shows more than 60 cases, all fully recorded to demonstrate his six keys to nonextraction treatment. He shows how his patients prefer wider smiles, lip projection and vermillion display, achieving best facial and dental results.

His keys to non-extraction treatment are: leeway space; mesial molar rotation; passive uprighting; active uprighting; distal movement and skeletal modification. This is very much a clinical textbook, detailing use of an impressive array of appliances and supported by carefully presented photography. The book is well organized, clear and easy to read and should be helpful to both specialized trainees and experienced orthodontists.
